According to a recent announcement by Companies House, from autumn 2024, Companies House will begin transitioning its online services to the government's new One Login system replacing the current Government Gateway process.

The gov.uk One Login service aims to provide a single sign-in for accessing all central government services, a project led by the Cabinet Office.

One Login Rollout

The rollout for the new One Login will occur in two testing phases:

  • Private beta: A small group of users will be invited to use One Login for the “Find and update company information service.”

  • Public beta: All users of the service will be able to sign in using One Login.

Once the public beta concludes, One Login will become mandatory for all users of this service.

Future Changes for WebFiling

The WebFiling service will migrate to One Login later, with businesses being given ample notice. Additionally, the new Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act (read a recent article on this HERE) mandates identity verification for anyone setting up or managing a UK company, which will eventually be integrated into the One Login system.

How to Sign Up for One Login

Users signing up for One Login will go through a new authorisation and identity verification process. Three verification methods are available: via the gov.uk ID check app, answering security questions, or at a Post Office. The service also incorporates two-factor authentication for added security.

This move aligns with the government's broader goal of creating a unified sign-in process across departments, starting with HMRC.

Transition for businesses is expected by 2025.
